Dr. José A. de Freitas, predecessor of the present generation at FISCHER Abogados, marked a model to follow in the field of legal sciences. He developed one of the most prestigious professional practices in Uruguay, with an extremely modern organization for his time, serving the most important clients in Uruguay and abroad.
He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on February 20, 1863, and died on October 29, 1940. He graduated as a lawyer in 1888, at the University of the Republic. In the academic field, Dr. de Freitas was the professor in charge of Commercial Law and Judicial Proceedings courses.
He was appointed member of the Executive Council of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, and was Dean of the Faculty of Law for several years (1909-1911).
Among other distinctions, Dr. de Freitas was appointed Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation of Spain and Ad Honorem Professor of Judicial Procedures at the University of the Republic.
He published many articles related to his area of expertise.The Uruguayan government appointed him first as a member and then as president of the Electoral Court of Uruguay.
He was several times as Cojudge of the Supreme Court of Justice by the General Assembly of the Uruguayan Parliament.
